Capital, as well as range of methods and models that you might
deploy in order to attract Venture Capital for your company or
project.
Is Venture Capital Right for Your
Business?
The first thing you need to consider, before you go
contacting venture capital groups, is that most of them are
seasoned, professional investors. It will not be easy to get a
foot in the front door if your business model/venture is not
well structured and well presented.
In many cases, it is often easy to confuse the need for
Venture Capital with an "Actual" need for Angel Investors.
As a rule of thumb, Venture Capital is something that a
company seeking capital might explore during its later
expansion funding stages and well after it has already
raised some initial strategic capital through Private Investors
and Angel Investors.
Walking into a Venture Capital Firm with just an idea or
a recently incorporated company is not going to work. It
will only lead to disappointment.
You need to have solid business plan in place, a credible
information memorandum, a suitable share structure, plans to
secure and protect I.P., justifiable financial forecasts,
a credible management team and much more..
So unless your company is already somewhat advanced in all
of these areas, you would probably be wasting your time and
their's by approaching them too early in the game.
But don't panic, we just need to understand
where to begin the journey and perhaps leave Venture Capital
approaches for a little later in the game.
It is also important to note, that any offer needs to be
compliant with the Corporations Act 2001, whether it be a
Personal Offer of investment to friends, family or business
associates, or, an offer of investment to
sophisticated & professional investors, or, an offer
presented via a Matching Service, or even via an ASIC lodged
Disclosure document.
